TUTORIAL 7 - DASHED LINES

MAKING DASHED LINES

STEP 1:

Create a new image 10 pixels wide and 1 pixel high. Make sure you zoom in all the way so you can see what you are doing. Draw a black line in in the middle of the image that is 8 pixels long. This leaves 1 pixel in white on either side of the image. Then select > all and go to edit > define pattern

STEP 2:

Open a new image or the picture you want to add dashed lines to.
Create a new layer above the picture.
Draw a horizontal line where you want it and what size you want it to be in this new layer. Then, go to edit > fill and in the options box select pattern and preserve transparency. Click OK.

STEP 3:

There is no step 3! You're done!
Here's what your solid horizontal line should look like after you've filled it with the pattern.

If you want vertical lines too, just go back to your line image and flip it 90 degrees, and then go through the above steps again:
1. select > all.
2. edit > define pattern.
Then, go to your other image, create a second new layer and draw your vertical lines in that layer. Once you've done that select edit > fill like you did before (make sure pattern and preserve transparency is selected), and now you have verticle dashed lines too!.
